...in Berlin

I'm going to move to Berlin for the next three months or so and I would really like to see what's available there in terms of new or old instruments. Does anybody know some good shops or makers around the city?

I'll also bring my double bass along and I'd like to get my sound post and bridge checked before winter. Who's the right guy to call in Berlin?

Finally, since three months away from my teacher is a long time, are there any great jazz players I could take a few lessons with?

Thanks in advance.

geba-online.de is sort of the German TB. Here in the "Marktplatz" section is basses for sale. Besides that there are many shops with instruments for sale. As you will see, there are many, many basses for sale in Germany, so you may want to simply leave yours at home!

I don't know how far Cologne is from Berlin, but you could call up John Goldsby

Thanks a lot for your replies.

I know there are many basses to buy in Germany, but on the other side I have a good bass that I will definitely bring along, being not sure I'll find something better there within my budget. It will be fun to check out some of the old basses on the site you posted, thanks.

Regarding teachers... I'd love to meet John Goldsby and take few lessons with him, but I think Cologne is not very close to Berlin (I guess about 600Km)... So I have to see how much it would cost me to go there, have my lesson, and then get back. I can also try to ask him if he's sometimes playing nearby Berlin. Thanks for the idea.

Any other suggestions for a good luthier/maker, and jazz teacher around Berlin are very welcome.

Try not to drool over some of the amazing basses they have there.

I'll be in Berlin for the Bass2010 conference, performing Patrick Susskind's play, THE DOUBLE BASS (http://bass2010.com/participants?id=100)

Both the place below and the the Kort one above are in walking distance of one and other. I dont play kontra bass but I walked into this place once and was really impressed by the workshop. The guy was also really pleasant as well. He's actually french I think.

Thomas Schiegnitz is an excellent Luthier in Berlin he also works at the Musikinstrumenten Museum and was at the ISB convention in 2007.

Not to hijack this thread, but I recently moved to Berlin myself and would like to purchase a double bass. However, I'm after a cheap beginner double bass.
Do any of you know of a musical instrument store or some other such place where I might be in luck?

Thanks for all the suggestions, i finally moved to berlin and just managed to get back online.
seems that between the names mentioned in the thread and the local ads i will have many basses to check out in my price range.

Also, I went to a couple of concerts and checked german websites but I still got no clue about any jazz bassist I could study with here... so if you got any names please let me know.
