Here's the short version:
Pros: well made, even sound, decent acoustic volume, Bob's dedication and customer service are second to none.
Cons: VERY heavy bass, bright sound, not much "oomph" to it. |

I had it set up by Shanks Strings in PA when I first got it. He did set up to my preference, (the bridge, some nut work), leveled the fingerboard, replaced the tailpiece wire, and maybe a few other things that I can't really remember, but with the set up, some rosin, a mute (that I promptly lost), it was $300, including tax.
I am very pleased with the bass. It is somewhat heavy, but it has good tone, nice sustain (I have it set up for jazz with minimal bowing), plenty of acoustic volume. All in all, a good deal on a carved bass, and I would recomend it. |

They were already good basses for the money, BTW. And although I'm currently looking to move up to a NS (I'll be pulling the trigger in a few months), I'm still playing my Bulgarian with pleasure every day. I only wish that there were a bit more low end to the sound.
