body and fingerboard polish

Whats a good polish to use on the body and fingerboard of my bass? For my electric basses I use a lemon oil by Planet Waves for my fingerboards and a cream of carnauba by Dunlop for the bodies. Im guessing these wouldnt be suitable for my upright so what should I use? Thanks.

I use this, it really makes the bass shine. But I don't know what sort of finish comes on the Englehardt, if it's a laquer finish I suppose your regular guitar polish would work.

I was wondering the same! It's not in your profile.

My two cents. In a recent copy of the Strad, they discuss various (often humorous) cleansers and polishes that have been used over the years. The author suggests microfiber cloths, which effectively clean without chemicals, but don't scratch the bass. They are cheap and available from a variety of sources, e.g. Amazon.

Your profile doesn't list your bass, but it does show you've only posted 21 times.

Apparently you were considering a damaged ES from e-bay, but settled on an Engelhardt Supereme from your local music store. Then you lowered the bridge, but the screws in the bridge adjusters were too long, and they chipped your finish.

The microfibre cloth is a good tip, I used it on e-basses, I think it helps prevent scratching. But again, the stuff shown above is for oil / hand rubbed finish. For the shiny sealed finish, I've used Martin Guitar Polish, or what have you.

There are several openings at the NSA right now.

Whatever bass I have out that I'm playing I just wipe off with a soft dust cloth when it gets dusty or has rosin/whatever on it. Other than that, beyond a damp cloth for things like food and dog drool, I let my luthier do whatever it is he likes to do. Comes back slick and shiny and confuses the animals, at least for a few days.
