Bohmann?

Just saw this Charles Lloyd clip on YouTube. When I saw the shoulders on the bass that Bob Hurst is playing, I immediately thought "Bohmann!" The clip doesn't show the bass really well so I'm sure it could be a number of things but wanted to see what you guys thought... I checked Bob's website but didn't see any pics of that bass there.

Nice clip, great band! Bob Hurst is a bad mutha. I don't know what the bass is, I'm sure someone will pop in and help. Since the performance was in Switzerland, maybe it's a rental or a loaner.

I was thinking the same thing... you don't get a real good look at it from that clip but I thought it might even be [gasp] PLYWOOD.

From the look of the shoulders, it appears to be one of the blockless wonders.

Lightbulb Bass..

It IS a Bohmann. I am sure of that. I have seen him with that Bass on two other u-tube clips. It is a 4-string version of Paul W.'s Bohmann 5er.

Look kids, it has fret markers! lol... Ken/others: Are there any Bohmanns in action on the classical scene, or are they mainly jazz beasts?

It also most definitely his own bass, and his favorite too.

Great clip.
Judging by the width of the fingerboard and girth of the neck it could have been 5 stringer converted to 4

I dunno Carl, if I remember correctly, Paul Warburton's 5 string neck is pretty regular width, the fingerboard is wider at the low string side becase it hangs over the neck. I see similarities in the side wood and shape. The tuners are completely different.

The Bohmann's I've known are carved tops and backs with laminated ribs.

At one point I thoght that i'd bought out the complete Bohmann estate. Two other basses besides my fiver which looked exactly like the bass in question. Wrong. let me edit this...... my fiver has the added shoulders and the original beautiful tuners not to mention other added details.

I know Bohmann likes fancy, but I'm thinking a normal tailpiece would suit that bass better haha. Otherwise very cool basses!

...And I thought double basses stood out from the crowd enough already!

My Bohmanns have all had 5 piece necks. My fiver has maple with ebony middles and the other two had rosewood middles. And of course, mine has those double shoulders.
This is the only one i've seen without the five piece neck.
That description doesn't mention triple purfling, including purfling on the edges!
