Early next month, I'll be making a trip to Montana. If possible, I'd like to find and upright or an EUB to borrow or rent for about three days.
I'll be arriving in Bozeman on Thurs., Feb. 5 and our gig is actually in Great Falls on Sat. Feb. 7. If possible, I'd like to find an instrument that I can pick-up on 2/5 (or early on 2/6) and return on Sunday, 2/7.
We play Cajun/Creole music and my upright is a Kay, set-up for pizz. If I can find a basic Engelhart, any basic upright or an EUB, that would be really cool. I'm working on borrowing an EUB here in Illinois, but I wanted to cast the TB net to see if anyone could help.
If you live in the area, have an instrument that you could loan or rent, then please contact me. If you know anyone in the area who might be able to help, then please forward this posting.
Many thanks,
Rob

It pizzes pretty good . Also have a Rev II pick-up, Coda 2-channel combo amp, and Wizzy M-Line if you want to amp up and/or run a mic out to the PA. The Winter weather and roads suck out here right now .... If you break the Kay's unbroken neck .... I may have to break yours too . I also have access to more of a beater '64 Kay S-1 with SS G & D / Spiro Weich A & E that sounds real fine and has also been fitted for a Rev II. PM me and we'll see if we can get you set up. What's your Band's name? I'll come and check out the show ! I like Cajun music. |

Especially if he is crazy enough to come to cold and wind-blown Great Falls Montana in the heart of The Winter. I think I will have to take myself a little 250 mile round-trip to go hear some good Creole / Cajun fiddlin' and hear Rob play my bass. Bein' as how I'm a rookie .... I might even learn something !
Stay in touch Rob .... We will figure it out.
P.S. Rob ..... Since you will be playing for The Montana Performing Arts Consortium shin-dig .... No bass and/or related bass-gear rental fees will be accepted ... Don't offer me any !
But .... I would accept a free ticket for You Folks' Big Show if you can swing that . Montana has a strong tradition of Michif (Métis) traditional fiddle playing. There are some excellent musicians from the Fort Belknap Indian Reservation and from elsewhere in Canada and NE Montana that carry on traditional Métis music and fiddlin' fireworks. I like that stuff ! If you are really interested .... Copy & Paste "Métis" into your search motor and read the Wiki-Pediatric article.

It will be fun to meet an Urbane Illinois Bass Player. I lived in Downers Grove near Chicago for a few years ... Wow .... I really wished I had some Downers at that time to help me thru .... I was a total Doo-Fuss from Montana at that time ...... I was outta-my-league .... Glad I'm back in MT ..... Snow and Below-Zero-Not-With-Standing !! |

It took us an hour on Monday morning to get 4.9 miles from the centre of town heading north; I mean, it was awful.
Then it took us until 7:00 pm to go the 175 miles to Procter, BC through complete white-out conditions on the seldom-used two lane up through Metaline Falls with the chains turning the van into a droning cacophony.
We'll get your bass into your hands as soon as possible Bob.
Happy New Year! |

When you say "Awful"... I believe you ... You Folks ain't Rookies ...... That really must have Sukked for You and Maiken ... Been There & Done That ... Old VW Van ... Bad MT Roads .... Theoretically and Karmically I should Be Dead Already .
If you adjust your V-Dubb Van speed just-right ... The snow chains-whapping inside the wheel-wells can not only keep you awake .... But can also set-up a reggae rhythm that gets you thru The Storm Nicely .. As long as you don't do too-many beers'n'doobs & argue with yer Passengers while drivin' thru The Mess At Hand. Quote:

I just made the transfer of my '40 Kay bass, AI Coda amp, Rev II p-up, and accoutrements to Rob here in Bozeman for their Cajun show in Great Falls on Saturday. I met the band .... Nice Folks .. They were thrilled and so was I. They gave me a couple of their good Cajun / Creole CD's (rental fees ) .
The Bass World is karmically kool . A few days after I posted that I was willing to help Rob out with my loaner bass ..... I got an unrelated call from some local players to fill in on a couple of their Cajun shows coming up. I've never done Cajun / Creole but I'm always up for a new adventure. It turns out that the CD's contain about 6 or 7 of the songs / tunes I am trying to learn for the upcoming shows. Now I just have to learn 26 brand new ones (to me) in 2 weeks and try not to suck too bad at the shows . Life Is Good . |

Everything worked out just ducky. I met up with the Cajun band here in town to get Dottie Kay and my amplification gear back yesterday before they took off for the airport. They said the show went real well and may get some Montana bookings later this year. They appreciated getting to use a Kay bass and I have been enjoying listening to their CD's. It would be nice to see them again if they come back to Montana .... They are a good crew. They made the "Big Time" .... The front page of Sunday's Great Falls Tribune .... That's Rob Krumm doin' time on Dottie Kay ..... |

| | Registered User | | Join Date: Mar 2004 Location: Urbana, Illinois | | | props to Bob I have a new "all hail Bob" in my life, and that is Bob Knebel from Bozeman. As detailed in his posts, I traveled to Montana to perform with my band, L'Esprit Creole, in Great Falls. We flew into Bozeman and Bob brought his bass to me at the hotel. His sweet-sweet 1940 Kay (Dottie Kay) that plays just as smooth as silk. And, all of the sound gear that anyone could need to do a gig including an AI amp, pick-up, cables, bass stand and more. This all resulted from a shot-in-the-dark TB post, my call for a bass loan (or rental). Bob responded to my post and all I can say is that I was truly overwhelmed by his generosity. As if there was any doubt, the TalkBass community is the best folks. And Bob, my wife Jennifer says that you're an adopted member of our extended family, so just let us know if we need to set an extra plate for Thanksgiving! |

Next time you can try out my Epiphone B-5. |

I hope we all have learned some very HIP stuff here in this exchange.
Keep kickin' Karmic ASS Bob.......I'll try too.
