Question Bottesini

Hey guys its Martin,

I am quite curious to what ever happened to Bottesini's Testore. If anyone knows about this, i would appreciate knowing. I havent really looked into it, but I read an article that said some guy named Gary Automobile owns it....is that Gary Karr's nickname??
Because it said that he was the world's most famous bassist, yet ive never heard of him
Any help is appreciated,
thanks again, Martin.

Bottesini died in Parma on the 7th of July 1889. His solo works are an uncommon performance today; not because of a lack of musicality, but due to their virtuosic difficulty.

Bottesini's close relationship with the instrument lasted right up to his death. It is said that the mortally ill virtuoso got dramatically worse after a doctor ordered the instrument to be moved out of his bed. He died within hours.

Today, the Testore belongs to Gary Karr.

Today, the Testore belongs to Gary Karr, well-known Bassists.

THAT is not the Bottesini, a Bottesini an Italian bass or even an old Bass. If I could take a guess I would say a modern American Bass by Lawrence LaMay. Here's a pic of another from 1971;

Don't believe everything you read. The Karr caption is way way off reality..

I think I heard it is in the possession of a Japanese businessman who plays it in a semi-pro orchestra in Japan. I also believe F. Petracchi played a recital on it a few years ago in Bottesini's home town during a festival celebrating his life and work.

Another Article on the Bass

For the past 33 years the double bass has been kept in a private collection in Japan. Its owner, a retired doctor and amateur bassist who plays the Testore in various orchestras, bought it from a dealer in Tokyo; before that it was played in Holland. Although kept in Japan, the bass has travelled to Europe recently and was seen in an exhibition in Cremona’s town hall . It could also be heard during the fourth International Giovanni Bottesini Double Bass Competition in neighbouring Crema that same month, when artistic director Franco Petracchi gave a recital on the instrument.
