Broken wheel post... (Plywood vs. Hybrid?)

The post for my bass wheel just snapped at the beginning of the threading while I was walking just fast enough to end up falling face-first over the whole shebang. Thankfully, nothing was broken, though I might have to keep an eye on the bridge. This bass continues to serve me well. It also survived a fall partway down a staircase, with nothing more than the bridge knocked out of whack.

What are the chances that a hybrid bass would be able to survive falling face-first onto a sidewalk? (while in a lightly-padded bag, of course...)

I've only been playing upright for a short while, and I'm surprised at how much abuse the thing takes. It seems I'm not capable of moving it anywhere without hitting it against something. I'm astounded sometimes that it's still in tune (or even still in one piece) when I pull the flimsy nylon case off it. I'm glad that it's a cheap plywood bass because I would have a heart attack if I was bashing around an instrument worth several thousands of dollars.

You need to get in the habit of treating your bass with care. It does take some effort, but there is no need for it to get bashed around if you pay attention to what you are doing when moving it, or for that matter, storing it.

A solid top would have a much greater chance of cracking in the situation fish describes.
