Buying a used bass?

Hello,
I'm living in belgium and I'm looking for a new DB (because my old very cheap one is broken)
I'm going to test one this sunday and I want to know what do I have to look precisely (I dont want to discover cracks or any problem after buying it)
The guy who sells it told me, that it has a solid top, a hardwood fingerboard
and he wants 625 euros for it
thank you very much and sorry for my miserable english

find out what strings are on the bass. good strings cost 150-200 euros. so if the strings are crap and you have to buy good ones, it will add to the cost.

i would suggest to go to a violin builder with the bass and let it be checked, even at your cost. i would agree with the seller that if there are defects, he pays for the examination, if not, you. i'd rather pay 50 euros for that than paying expensive repairs later. repairs are expensive, i tell you!

600 euros isn't exactly much money for a DB.

in general, there is nothing wrong with old basses.

That is a very low price for a carved top instrument... very odd. Take it to a instrument shop and get a professional's opinion of the bass. Do not buy the bass if the seller does not let you get this 2nd opinion.

--->nickllyd : on www.thomann.de, you can get a carved top strunal for 1000 euros so, I don't think that this price is so strange
