Convert to DB

Well I took the plunge. After playing electric bass guitar for 30 plus years, I decided to buy a DB. This is something I have always wanted to do and I guess the time is now.

I quitely have been reading posts on this side of TB and the unsolicted endorsements for Upton basses convinced me to drive 130 miles to Mystic Connecticut.

I bought a Hybrid Hawkes. Seems like a very reasonable price for this instrument. Gary, the owner, couldn't be more enthusastic about DB and his products. Nice to see people with passion. It's contageous.

Having played fretless EB for many years, I am not completely alien to some of the concepts required to play this instrument but it is a very different beast from electric bass.(as you all know)

Many of the techniques are alien to an EB player and I will tapping the knowledge of DB brothers and sisters for help along the way.

I'm very excited. I now have to wait 6 to 8 weeks for them to build the bass.

IMHO, it would be well worth getting a teacher, even if only for a few lessons of orientation and proper technique. It just might also prevent injury. I think you made a fine choice in terms of the instrument. Those Hawkes Hybrids are a real bargain. Gary hooked me with his enthusiasm years ago.

Point well taken. Will do.
