Could you help me please ?

Hi!
I'm in Poland now, and I was looking for a second hand double bass (I've been playing the electric bass for around 10 years already and I feel some need to change). I'd like to find something in this country because it's far cheaper than in my home country, say, France, where I'll come back soon.
Thing is, I don't know much about all this, and I've found one which is not much expensive, but which is a 3/4, not a 4/4. To what extent does it matter to me, knowing that I'm 1.80 m tall and I have quite long hands?
I hope you don't find my question too stupid
Thanx for your help,
Franek

I would say try to find somebody that knows what they are doing and get them to help you, even if you have to pay them a few bucks for the service. It's just too tricky to buy a bass, at any price, without some experience behind the decision. You could start with the symphony players. Maybe someone there would help you. Or find the best shop you can and go from there.

3/4 is probably better than 4/4. But, like has been said, you really need someone experienced to look it over and tell you if it's any good.

Good idea, getting someone to help you. Even if you have to buy a few meals, getting a pro symphony player to help you track down a bass would be a great way to go. Take a few lessons while you're at it! Buying a double bass when you really don't know what you're looking at is tough. Just check around and make sure the guy helping you isn't in on the deal; there're some shady characters around anywhere you go, and basses are like used cars.
