Cremona SB-3 or Merano?

I am getting back into playing upright after about 7 years or so and I'm looking for a good bass for about $1500.00. Any suggestions?
I've been looking at a few on eBay, mainly the Cremona SB-3 and a Merano. Also, the Fritz Kronenberg carved bass sounds good but seems a bit too good to be true...
I think at that price point I'd prefer laminate anyway.
Thanks for any help with this!

Look for a Shen

You could probably get a good playable Shen for less than $1300 or $1400. Try your best to avoid eBay. A friend of mine bought a cello on eBay and it turned out to be stolen from some college in Illinois.
Also, if we know where you are located, what kinds of music you play, and all of that good stuff, we can help you find shops, luthiers, etc. that are nearby.
Good luck on your Search.

Another vote for Shen SB 80

I think that you'll be happier with a ply bass from a company like Shen, such as their SB 80 model. You can search the forum archives for what people have had to say about Cremona and Merano brands. Most importantly, find a local bass luthier that you can trust to set up your bass and keep it healthy.

Good luck!

Yea, I've been checking out the Shen basses at Upton Bass. They sound great for the price and Upton seems to do a very thorough setup.
I'll give them a call to see how much shipping would be to Nova Scotia, Canada.
Thanks for your help!
