"Curtis Institute" basses

Back in the 70's my father bought a small (5/8?) bass from Dave Horine at the Bass Viol Shop in Cincinnati. It was stamped "The Curtis Institute" on the heel of the neck and on the lower bout adjacent to the endpin. At the time, we were told it had been sold by Curtis in a fundraiser sometime in the late 40's or early 50's. Anyone know anythng about Curtis selling off instruments about that time?

I really don't know much about the history of Curtis selling basses, but I'm curious about your father's bass. Did he sell it? Because the bass you are describing sounds similar to the one I currently own!

Do you know any more information on the bass, or have any pictures, by chance, andrew?

Tim, could you post some pictures of your bass, with close ups of the stamps on the neck heel and by the endpin?

If I may...https://www.facebook.com/mcinbass/photos_stream

I'm assuming this is the same one you're talking about, Andrew. I played it at Robbie's Very cool little bass, with a nice big sound!

Probably a very nice instrument, at least at the time.

I don't see anyone at Curtis tolerating a bad instrument, even one used for lessons/rehearsals on site.
