I did a "Dangersearch" and came up with the following:

The Bromberg Lemur Bass

Bromberg/Lemur

BTW, what's "Lermer"?

They are the company or association that grant general permissions for things; it's that Lermer's Permit you've heard so much about.

Looks like my 3 years in the 7th grade didn't help my spelling or proof reading. Maybe I should stop drinking before noon.

Uh, yeah,uh, I meant to write that. Yeah, that's the ticket.

Ok, what I'm looking for is a carved bass to keep set up for arco playing which has a comfort level similar to my NS La Scala hybrid. The NS will remain my jazz bass.More specifically,I'd like to know about the diameter of the neck. I've found that a neck thiner than my NS causes me arm/shoulder pain. A second NS set up for arco is an obvious idea. The BB wood bass just sounds worth looking into.

The Bromberg Lemur Bass
Hey guys, here is what I know so far. I have seen two different models of the WOOD bass. The German one for $8,000 and the Chinese model for $4,500. I can honestly say that I am very impressed with both versions. I new that the German Stoll bass was going to be very good, but the Chinese bass knocked me out! For the money it is amazing.

When you play them set up with traditional action they do sound fantastic. The sound is very even from the bottom to the top, a true testament to how great my old Italian bass is, and how good a job Lemur did in measuring the bass and how good a job the luthiers did in replicating it.

I do have a very different set up on my bass then most bass players and it is a very challenging set up to do for a luthier. I have complete faith in Lemur to be able to nail my set up. For them it is very new and will take some time in getting nailed down.

Most people will not want my jazz set up. In fact I am going to have them set up a WOOD bass for me with a more traditional set up so I have an arco bass to play without changing my basses set up.

Make sure that you check the bass out when it is set up normally so you can really hear what it sounds like.

They did a great job with the bass. If you play jazz or classical you will love playing this bass. The shape and size of the instrument makes it truly a joy to play.

Thanks.....................Keep up the low end...........Brian

After looking at these instruments on the Lemur site the dimensions that are published there are all quite different. From memory Brian's instrument has a long narrow upper bout with the f-holes set low and is rather small in general as the measurements suggest.

His fingerboard seemed quite flat vertically with a great deal of board between the G string and the outer edge of the board starting at the nut. An unusually unique "jazz" setup that made all the sense in the world once he started hammering. I'm guessing this setup wouldn't work well without amplification for us mear mortals.

I own one of the BB German Stoll basses. The action is low, the tone is great, it is enjoyable to play, and I could not be happier. I have played electric for 18 years and found this neck and setup to be very accessible. If you have any questions about it, I will try to answer.
