DB companies

I'm going to be looking into getting a DB soon, once I have the money, and I was wondering about the names of some companies to try ($2000 or less). I've heard of Kay/Engelhardt, but not much besides that.

Question

Check out the newbie links for a ton of information on different basses and what to consider when buying. Then you can come back with more specific questions. Also, if you fill out your profile it will help others help you. (where are you?)

Consider what style music you want to play. For orchestra your needs are different than someone that wants a bass to haul around to bluegrass festivals or play rockabilly slap with an amp. I'm guessing since you mentioned Kay/Englehardt you're looking for a laminate (?) If so, Shen, Christopher, Eastman, Eberle and Upton are among possibilities in your price range.

Yes, I'm planning on a laminate. I'm mainly going to be using it for jazz and maybe a bit for orchestra and bluegrass.

Also, I'm in Wisconsin and wondering where A luthier could be found in or around Dane County.

Here's a new listing for Madtown, from Bob Gollihur's luthier database;
