I am thinking of getting one and need it to be able to hold the bass. If you have tried one let me know.
Thanks deBorno

You can get a really fuel effecient car and even if gas get's to $2.00 a liter or $7.50 a gallon see how much driving you need to do to make up the difference in money from a Hyrid to a normal effecient car. For me it was $10 000 different in price from hybrid to a honda fit, so I would have to drive roughly 225000km for the hybrid to start being cheaper for me or roughly 140000 miles for it to be cheaper, before you go hybrid check out an effecient none hybrid car, it could be cheaper. |

Thanks deBorno | I'll assume that you already have the bass and are considering the Prius. The best thing to do is set up an appointment with a dealer, or a friend if they have a Prius, and take your bass down, and any other equipment you normally take on a gig, and see if you can safely fit everything in. That's what I do when I get a new vehicle. I bought a Matrix six years ago using that method. How else are you going to know? People's opinions may help, but actually loading the vehicle being considered is the only way to know.

PS: No one ever seems to talk about this, probably because there's not much that could be done, but ask the Toyota dealer if the passenger air bags can be disabled. Since people wind up with broken bones and eye damage from deploying air bags, I don't think a double bass, carved or laminated, will come out of it not being in pieces. |

| | | | bass in a prius I can fit my 3/4 Shen in the 2002 prius (non hatchback) by reclining the front passenger seat and putting it in through the rear driver side door . no problem. |

I believe the only way it worked was to lay the bass flat on its back, with the neck to the rear. The sloping hatchback dictated the position. It's not the optimal position for a bass. I would probably use some padding under the back. |

Doesn't fit in the trunk with the back seats folded down
Can't imagine how it would fit in the back seats

PS: Good link, nice pics. I guess in Australia shotgun would be the front, left seat. In any case, its the front passenger seat. Spent a month in Perth years ago. Great area and would like to go again and see more of the country.

Once in the car, I pull the bottom edge over to me a bit so the bass is leaning away from me. More stable like that. |

I know you're not supposed to store it like that, but would it be ok on an hour and a halfish drive like that? | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
