DB and the Prius??

I wonder if anyone has tried to fit a 3/4 bass in a Toyota Prius?
I am thinking of getting one and need it to be able to hold the bass. If you have tried one let me know.
Thanks deBorno

it fits really easy, a bass can fit in most cars though, it can fit in the yaris easily, a mini, a honda fit, I have even fit my travel basss a czechease in a smart car. bring your bass though you never know. one thing about the prius though, my friend just had to have his batteries replaced after 6 years and it cost him $7000, I think you just need to see if it is worth the money to you. You can get a really fuel effecient car and even if gas get's to $2.00 a liter or $7.50 a gallon see how much driving you need to do to make up the difference in money from a Hyrid to a normal effecient car. For me it was $10 000 different in price from hybrid to a honda fit, so I would have to drive roughly 225000km for the hybrid to start being cheaper for me or roughly 140000 miles for it to be cheaper, before you go hybrid check out an effecient none hybrid car, it could be cheaper.

I'll assume that you already have the bass and are considering the Prius. The best thing to do is set up an appointment with a dealer, or a friend if they have a Prius, and take your bass down, and any other equipment you normally take on a gig, and see if you can safely fit everything in. That's what I do when I get a new vehicle. I bought a Matrix six years ago using that method. How else are you going to know? People's opinions may help, but actually loading the vehicle being considered is the only way to know.

Lloyd Howard

PS: No one ever seems to talk about this, probably because there's not much that could be done, but ask the Toyota dealer if the passenger air bags can be disabled. Since people wind up with broken bones and eye damage from deploying air bags, I don't think a double bass, carved or laminated, will come out of it not being in pieces.

bass in a prius

I can fit my 3/4 Shen in the 2002 prius (non hatchback) by reclining the front passenger seat and putting it in through the rear driver side door . no problem.

My wife owns a Prius and I've had no problems getting my bass, as well as a weekends worth of equipment in it.

I'm going to have to try that donk, I have a 2002 also and have always just put my bass in my old Jeep. If it fits in the Prius then all the better.

fit

I took my bass and amp to the Toyota dealership to try fitting everything into a Prius. I believe the only way it worked was to lay the bass flat on its back, with the neck to the rear. The sloping hatchback dictated the position. It's not the optimal position for a bass. I would probably use some padding under the back.

I brought my bass to the dealer when I was looking at my 2005 Prius, and it fit just fine, so I took them both home with me.

Perhaps it's your technique. so how are you trying to fit it in there?

Matthew

Doesn't fit riding shotgun
Doesn't fit in the trunk with the back seats folded down
Can't imagine how it would fit in the back seats

It's a saying in the US meaning front, right seat.

Lloyd Howard

PS: Good link, nice pics. I guess in Australia shotgun would be the front, left seat. In any case, its the front passenger seat. Spent a month in Perth years ago. Great area and would like to go again and see more of the country.

Shotgun= Passenger's seat sorry

And that was a quite straightforward tutorial, thanks
(didn't try putting the seat back and down......)

What if you fold the passenger seat all the way down, then put the bass in neck first from the rear driver side door, letting the instrument rest diagonally?

The other thing to do once the bass is in the car is to raise the back of the seat just enough so the scroll isn't resting on the back headrest. Once in the car, I pull the bottom edge over to me a bit so the bass is leaning away from me. More stable like that.

Out of curiosity, is having the bass on it's back just an overall bad idea? I know you're not supposed to store it like that, but would it be ok on an hour and a halfish drive like that?
