Question double bass

I want to play bass in a small bluegrass group on a limited basis. We lost our bass player and our dobro player is playing bass. I want to learn a little bass so he can play some dobro on a few tunes. Who knows where a little knowledge may lead.
Today I have a bass guitar and a limited knowledge of rythm guitar chords. No musical training strictly by ear. I need help. A friend told me to learn E chord and then I will be able to move it up to get the other chords. This sounds great, but I need to know which finger to place on which string for E ,A and B7. Can anyone spare the time for a novice like me?

Thanking you in advance

Well, maybe it is time for some musical training on either bass or one of your other chosen instruments.
Some basic theory is not going to make your music any worse - and to be honest if you were one of those ear geniuses (we have all seen them) you would be able to find the basic notes you need by ear.
One hint I would give you is that the notes are in exactly the same order as on bass guitar with a bit more space.
