double bass question

i've always liked rockabilly and psychobilly and know from just a bit of looking around that double basses aren't exactly cheap, but is there such a thing as a beginner set up for double bass? what should i look for in terms of size? 1/2, 3/4, 4/4? thanks for taking the time to answer a noob question.

I think you'll find that, in general/roughly speaking, 3/4 is the more commonly used size (and of course, the size of basses was never standardized, so there are smaller and larger 3/4's, likewise for 7/8 size basses and I imagine 5/8 size).

That's about all I can say. The rest and plenty more information on bass sizes and much, much more can be found here.

Sorry, didn't realize there was a sticky on my question.

No worries, just trying to help (it's pretty common that that sticky gets overlooked).
