Ebay deal?

Hi TBers,

Just wondering if people have seen this, purportedly, old Italian bass and/or are pursuing it:

http://cgi.ebay.com/old-double-bass-...QQcmdZViewItem

(Not sure if the link is working, but you can cut & paste)

Interestingly, the seller states that it's labelled, but doesn't post a photo of the label. Anyone know of the vendor's reputation??? Is this likely what it's advertised to be?

Cheers,
Paul (Eh_train)

Hmmm, I done the math and it looks like a loss leader to me...

Wasn't there another purported Gagliano on E-bs lately or is this the same one? If I had a nickel for every faux label...

What I like about this one is the way the bridge is compensated like the former player was setting up his guitar!

Upon extensive research, I found this http://www.cozio.com/Instrument.aspx?id=5075
Cozio is a very reliable source and in fact,
Giovanni Gagliano was the maker of instruments labeled Joanes Gagliano and the labels also vary over the beginning of the 19th century, especially the spelling of Naples i.e. Neapol.
It is also important to view the work of his sons

The woods are of similar figure, overall bass outline is very close, one being flatback and the other round.
Another strong point is that the body is of figured wood and the original headstock is rather plain.
I am no expert on this matter but I do my research.
