Engelhardt ES-1 ebay damage question

hi all. there's an engelhardt supreme model w/ adjustable bridge up for grabs on ebay for a ridiculously low amount of money. is this too good to be true? there is a ding on one of the edges, but what im really worried about is what looks like a small crack on the bass's back. its in the last picture. (i emailed the seller, no response yet) if it is a crack, is it something that could or will need to be repaired? the bid ends tommorow. please help- i have been playing electric for two years and double bass for one, both with private teachers. i would love to have this bass as my first as i have been playing on our crappy school bass for a year! thanks for all the help heres the link:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=190183296118

btw i am planning on buying the engelhardt maestro bass if this one doesnt work out. thanks again!

to my untrained eye, (i hope the guys correct me if i'm wrong) it looks like a minor cosmetic blemish. i don't know what from. it just doesn't seem to follow the grain like a crack should.

i have something to say about the low price. look at the price of the bid and then the buy it now and notice that the reserve hasn't been met. my money says that the reserves probably around a grand or more.

best of luck

I agree with Kevin. With a BIN of $1400, i think their reserve is probably at least $800 [and that's on the low side].

Vince, your profile doesn't say where you are. but you can pick up a brand new Engelhardt ES1 from Jerry Fretwell for less than the $1400.00 BIN price they are asking. Plus Jerry will set it up professionally for you. He is in eastern Virginia.

if you're in new york, you have a hell a lot more options than some people do. keep looking around... if you need some help give me a message. i'll be back in january and i love window shopping for basses.

You can try out David Mix in Branford,CT for an Englehardt. He is reasonable in price and very acccomodating. I am about to but my second DB from him.

My experience with David Mix was quite different. Ornery and eccentric and not at all interested in selling me a bass. But other say good things. I guess I got him on bad day.
