I offered a bit more than that. Wish me luck. I did tell them it was a Bass.

So then, who used Angel's Hair for the wrappings on their strings?

I really need this guys. I need a new bass. Mine is a great student bass and it has served me well but i need a tool.

I also need a tool like that so i can customize it and not worry about destroying it. I know i can make that bass beautiful and give me a tool i can make a living with.

Thumbs up

The Dragonetti bow alone is worth a pop. I have one hanging on my wall. You can fit your entire hand in one of those frogs.

After initial contact, nothing. I think someone else is in the game.

I think the owner is getting raked over the coals. Untill i mentioned it was a bass they weren't aware.

Probably gonna get outbid and they still get undercut. Lame.

But predators we are. Arent we?

I don't mean to rain on anyone's parade, but I'm pretty sure that is a half-sized bass, with a likely string length of about 39". Is that what you are looking for?

I defer to Arnold. It could well be a 1/2 size bass. However, the scroll, pegs, machines, and hand forged iron tuning keys match those on my mid-19th century 3/4 bass which was built in the Tirol in Austria. These are not particularly refined instruments—often lacking a substantial block and having a bass bar carved in the table plank (top). The top is often quite thick, and the back is flat unflamed Maple.

All that said, these basses can be brought up to a higher standard of structure (overstand, braces, crack repairs, etc.) and sound (bass bar, top graduation) with a lot of restoration and $$$$.

Actually, we probably do know because, IMO, both Jim and Arnold are right on target. Measurements would be needed to prove it's a halfer for sure, like Arnold said. Top regraduation and the bass bar being removed and replaced = $$$$$$$.

Here's a Dragonetti bow. The one with that bass is a newer version without the extreme opposite bend at the tip like this one, but much like the one hanging on my wall in my home.
The forged machine tuning handles that Jim refers to are often referred to, IME, as pot metal.
