Fender Double Bass!!

Arrgh - the new Ford Focus ad campaign has big pictures in magazines of a Double Bass made out of the "Fender" of the car - who thought that up!!??

So - the website has music apparently played by all these instruments and you can mix them to hear the DB part :

http://www.fordeumicrosites.com/focu...&locale=en-gb#

I'm not sure what I think about this and whether they actually made a real playable Double Bass - surely it would sound like crap if it was made from the Fender of a Ford!!??

i prefer the higher end line of Fenders - BMW, Mercedes, Rolls, etc. But if we have to go American, I prefer the GM line - a little more durable - hold up better in adverse conditions...strings don't break as easily.

Maybe we need a discussion of the tonal qualities of Italian vs. German....?

Ferrari, Lamborghini etc. vs. Mercedes and BMW!!

If I'm gonna play a fender, I try to go for tone.

Is that pic an idea of how "old-fashioned", one of today's high-flying ad executives would find the idea of a carved wooden DB!!??

Jrlynch, nice double entendre with the roadkill! Continuing into the macabre, as we say in New England, F.O.R.D. (Found On Road, Dead).

Or in the south, Fix Or Repair Daily

Anyway, this is kind of interesting. At least it means that the marketing types know there IS such a thing as a double bass.

Mark

But they think it should be brightly-coloured, shiny and metallic....

I do agree though - it was interesting at first to open up a glossy magazine and see a picture of a Double Bass - but then it was disappointing to realise it was an ad for a car!

Wow, that is very cool!

Right now in our market, there are a lot of TV commercials featuring DB for all kinds of products. Its always good to have acoustic music/instruments get more exposure like that.

split lip rayfield, a bluegrass band on speed. their bass player plays an upright bass made with a gas tank - I think he said it was from an old chevy van. it sure doesn't look as nice as that "Fender"

If you go to the web site I linked in my first post and click on the Treble Clef (sic) buttons - you can see they have made a whole load of different instruments out of Ford Focus body parts - flutes, trombones, harp, guitar etc.

I was only alerted to the Double Bass as it featured in a big colour spread in a magazine I bought yesterday!

That's the first one I thought of. Those ads are getting just as deceptive as the Geico 'I saved on my auto insurance' ads a few years ago.
