Question Finding a bass in Topeka...

My needs:

quality
low price (I only make 15,000 a year.)
good sound
3/4 size (I would assume)
I'm 5 11, decent sized hands.

I will be using it primarily for orchestral work. I'm going to be majoring in Music Education with a Spec. in Upright Bass.

I don't have a really good credit or credit cards...so, I don't know if I can finance any way. we'll see.

Thanks,
Ryan

Hello Ryan ..... you may want to contact Bob Branstetter in Stanley Kansas. Here's a link to his profile here at TalkBass: http://www.talkbass.com/forum/member.php?u=20910 . He is a very knowledgable luthier and double bass player and may have some leads for you. Hope you find a double bass that's just right for you ... it is a great instrument and a whole lot of fun to play.

+1 on Bob.

KC Strings is also a good source and Anton Krutz will work with you and your finances.

Paging Ryan .......

Did you see this Classified Ad for two double basses for sale in the Kansas City Area?
One carved, one plywood

The Geman plywood sounds like a decent deal for $1200.

I'm negotiable on those basses. The plywood didnt make the most horrible sound Ive ever heard (arco)...but it is plywood...you would prob want something better as a orch studen. You should check out the carved one. It a big one. I could cut you a deal. Maybe you could get financing through a bank...or a student loan Thats how I supported my racing habits through college....

I'll do some further research for other options.
