first DB purchase

Well, I pulled the trigger on my first double bass!

I've been an electric bassist for roughly 20 years and have a performance degree (on trombone, however) but have been aching to play double bass for a long time.

I did my homework. I checked out the Newbie links, read tons of info, read and listened more than I posted, and finally placed my order yesterday. I called the good folks at Upton Bass in CT and ordered a Shen SB80. It'll be at least two weeks before it arrives here, and I can barely contain my excitement! Woohoo!

Way to go. You'll be thrilled with the set-up, I have no doubt. My Upton plays so easily with any string combo I've ever used, from gut to hybrid to steel. Don't forget to post all the particulars when it arrives. It'll be a great help to other newbies as well.

good luck,
gomez

CONGRATS! Just curious-- did you get a chance to play the Uptons? What did you prefer about the SB80 over the Upton plys? Price? I agree with gomez-- It'll have a superb setup!
