What airline are you flying, and how much does the case weigh empty? Southwest may charge less if the case is under 50 pounds.

Some airlines will still allow you to do that. The bass has to fit, and it can't block aisle access (which means it needs a window seat). I suspect that limits your options to first class tickets.

If you try it, remember to check your endpin in a separate bag.

I think a lot of the people that buy a seat for their basses forget to mention that it's usually first class.

I'm wondering if PaulCannon, or other talkbassers in Houston can offer advice about getting from Hobby airport in Houston to Rice with a large flight case for my son's audition in February. I don't really want to rent a minivan for 4 days and many airport ground transport shuttle companies will charge up to 8 fares because they have to remove several seats to accomodate a flight case.
