I'm about to get a car, and have heard from a couple threads that the Ford Focus Zx3 will fit an upright. I was just wondering if anyone here owns one, if they could give me a little details on fitting in there.
Specifically, can I still have someone in the passenger seat with my bass in the back?
Sometimes I see these cars and think "oh of course my bass (3/4 Upton Hybrid) will fit in there," and then other times I'm like "that's a pretty small car...." I'd like to go about as small as possible while still fitting a bass. I'm hoping that's not too tall of an order.
Thanks for your time,
Andrew

| | | | Bass fit. Most any car can fit a double bass. In the sixties we carried one around in a Renault Dauphin. With two guys. |

In fact, the school bass I play has an end-pin that's duck-taped out because the thumb-screw stripped. It STILL fits in that Geo. I don't know if the Zx3 is a hatchback, but if it is, you'll be in good shape. |

I am able to fit my bass, a guitar and a small amp with a passenger (the guitarist) in the seat next for me...all the newer fords can't fit any thing, but that is because they are all coupes...
One of my teachers drives a Prius and fits her bass in the same way...

"uhm, you know our car is not only to transport your bass but YOUR GIRLFRIEND with the bass."
to which I said "uh...yeah of course baby!" |

Plus, as in a lot of cars like this, the rear seat is split and driver and passenger side can fold down singly. So I've driven with my bass, a violin, a viola, a violinist and a violist (though, for obvious reasons, I would not recommend this).

A passenger has to ride behind the driver, but I don't need to do that too often.
I've been tucking a pillow under the top end of the bass body to keep the scroll from actually resting on the front seat. |

Leaves room for a couple of banjos and a guitar or two. I've owned small wagons for years, and always found this body style super practical. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
