Exclamation Fretted Upright?!?

I was searching on ebay and came across this one-of-a-kind rare bass. I knew there had to be a fretted DB somewhere in the world - and now I'm finally seeing one. You can't really even tell by the pictures, but you should check this out. That's a great price for such a nice bass. It has a beautiful finnish. I don't think I'd ever want a fretted upright, though. You lose that nice fretless buzz.

Maybe Mike P. can build a whammy bar into it.

Wink

So yeah - I emailed the guy and he informed me that he played it side-ways with a strap on it. He also told me that he played it with a pick, and when I asked him if he ever played it arco he asked me what that meant.

actually, there is a precedent - many viols had moveable frets, like viola de gambas. they also had sometimes as many as 7 strings. ahem.
