| if it was distributed by heinl, i imagine it's a bass worth checking out. they are VERY picky about the instruments they take into their shop. any time you can find a functional bass for under $2000, its generally worth taking a look.
as far as the asking price, it seems pretty fair. i would go check out the bass. the most important thing is that the bass feels right to you. check for any cracks/open seams, as well as buzzes when playing through the entire fingerboard. i agree that you should pay what you feel the bass is worth, however like i said it's rare to get a functional bass for under $2000. if you were to shoot a low-ball offer like $1200, you could miss out on a great bass.
