As info, this guy had used the same forfeited deposit story for over four (4) years. Runs CL ads rotating from Waukegan, Glenview, & Deerfield, has a Gamba outline he also puts up. Talked to him once when we were looking for my son some years back, did not pursue it as I did not believe the hype was worth the trip over.
Here is a link to the Hofner site http://www.hofner-strings-bows.com/o...uble-bass.html
your picture looks like the H5/8 which they do say here is still made in Germany. As I recall when my son & I were researching I could not verify that at the time, however this link not familiar so believe it is different and updated from then.
You will note, their student model, AS-180, does not state made in Germany and is also a solid top, leading me to believe it is likely not made there. I might suggest that you take info from the Hofner site and compare the specs to the bass.
Not saying this is a bad bass, just know what you are getting. There are also a number of threads here about Hofners you may want to read before deciding.
As a last thought the hard case at the time we spoke was one of the foam cases you see go anywhere from $100 - $500 depending on a persons perception of value. As info we tried one of these for a bass my son stores at school for his daily use. While light weight, it is big, bulky, and not easy to transport unless you have a larger vehicle. It also scuffed the finish off the upper bout of his bass from daily in and out, and we could never understand why as the lining was not damaged. For us, a good bag has worked out better.
