That's one reason why they're really expensive.

Fine Business on Canada and Australia and YES, quite seriously for one moment.... Canada is a really beautiful country and YES I can understand why you love to live there!
To answer your questions Adrian, I don't claim for one moment to be any kind of an expert on Tone however, let me say this ,as WE players climb up from the bowels of an open E or F note and move through the first octave into the next we obviously have a change in the sound produced as the Frequency length shortens now, what MY ear is hearing as I climb is a higher pitch in sound but I'm still hearing a SWEET tone along with the high pitch. It took me some time in the early days to listen through the high pitch note to hear the sweet tone.(It's that thing of ....not seeing the Forest for Trees!)I'll give you the pleasure of disagreeing with my thoughts however, that's the way I see it!
And on the Chinese Basses that I own....
Before I moved over to my current line up basses, I had for the first 15 years of D/basses an OLD Flat Back German Job (origin unknown)however, had carved in the back top corner the date 1876 and a name that was unreadable. In the time that I own this bass,it was never a good sounding bass although I spent a lot of time working to try to make the old girl in to a working tool. At the end I really gave up... the back was lifting off the sides had serious cracks and the inside had a century of built up crap.I did get an opinion from a local Luthier at one time and he agreed that it was ready for fire wood. So, a mate who wanted to get started into DB made me an offer and I took it..... He got it for a song! and I moved on!Since then I've mainly stayed with the Asian products and I must say have been more than happy.
Best wishes you all for XMAS & the New Year!
