And btw, if "set up by...." means "no fingerboard", I'm happy to come over and remove your fingerboard for you (I'll take out the soundpost too, but it'll cost'ya extra ). Oh, and for the record, I'm not a luthier ... but on the internet none of that seems to matter, does it? I'll throw in FREE SHIPPING

" . . . . set up by Lawrence Hurst of Indiana University"

If I were Mr. Hurst I think I would sue this guy for slander ! ! ! !

Selling a bass without the fingerboard attached and calling it "set up" is like advertising a house for sale to be in move in condition, just install the roof and you're good to go ! ! ! ! !

I'm sure Larry Hurst would do better than that, and he teaches at Kansas, not Indiana anymore.

Looks like a DIY fingerboard replacement gone bad, to me. He's selling it in embarrassment.

I think you're probably right, Mike -- there's a story behind the missing fingerboard. Still, if the board's in reasonable shape (and why isn't it being shown in all its "needs to be cleaned up" glory?) and it's included, that bass may be a nice opportunity for somebody...

The most insulting part is he's asking $2400.00 dollars for the bass. You could buy a bass of similar quality for less with the fingerboard included. Especially in NYC one could buy a Chrissy or Strunal fully set up for $1800-$2000, or go to Ideal where one could purchase a Roma, Eberle, or Wilfer for that money.

Where did you hear that? Maybe you're thinking of a different Larry Hurst because I'm pretty sure he's still at IU.

I went and auditioned for Larry Hurst at Kansas a little over a year ago. I also auditioned at IU and he wasn't there. I don't know.

I just saw one of these - fully carved brand new- in the local guitar shop music store for $2200.00 so not really a good deal even in new condition.

What I'm thinking is maybe someone can smarten up the seller by offering to relieve him of his mess for a reasonable price. The asking price isn't the reasonable price I'm thinking of...
