Mein Deutsch ist nicht so gut! Does it say what pitches the strings are tuned to? I like the look.

Tuning this little thing

I'd probably tune it up a fourth using the the appropriate strings for ADGC. That would put it up near cello range for the bass voice in oldtime string band music. The A would be a very useful bottom note for that style of music.

That's a pretty cool looking EUB forefather. I've never seen one before. It is definitely rare.

I've had a Gibson ply upright in my possession for a few days and have seen a couple of others, this thing looks like a one of a kind. Haven't even heard of one of these. Is there anything in the German text that would be explanatory enough to translate to English?

Thanks,

Ike

hi ike,

the ebay-page says nothing about if its a single piece or not.
shall i translate the whole text?

edit: this is a quick&dirty translation with altavisa babelfish ( http://babelfish.altavista.com:

THE MISSING LINK! An absolute rare piece is this singular, very rare Piccolo retort bass in traditional playing the violin civil engineering of the renowned company GIBSON in co-operation with Barcus Berry. An easily transportable acoustic bass for jazz, fusion, Latin inclusive. HI-Z Preamp (5 MOhm) with cable, soil board for the prick, stand, measure-manufactured Flightcase and special production Gigbag. Griffbrett from rose wood, ochestra from beautifully flamed maple. Lateral mark points at the neck were later used from genuine Tuerkis hemispheres. Low-friction GIBSON mechanics. Smallest dimensions: Overall height without the prick 133 cm, trim depth 8cm, mensur 85 cm. Can be pulled and painted. In the original bar is a Barcus Berry Piezo Pickup. Very fast speech, narrow griffbrett for racing solo play predestines. In the neck is a clamping staff calm in wood. The Miles Davis bassist Ron Carter used this instrument on several of its photographs. The condition is very good. In Europe it is probably the only one of its kind and this 1A preservation condition. Original value inclusive all accessories approx.. 5.000?. Weight 3 kg (bass) and 8.5 kg (Flightcase). I could not determine the costs of the insured dispatch unfortunately. Size of the Flightcase is 140 x 50 x 20 cm plus specially dispatch of the Gigbags with the accessories. Surely becomes under 60? remain. Collection with an instrument of this value is recommended naturally. The bass can be tested at any time with me. Location proximity attaining/Nuernberg. Still questions? E-Mail....

Not that uncommon actually and many people call for these basses all the time ... here's a pic of an almost 3 year old customer of mine at practice with his mom.
