Gig Horror story- both amp and bass broke!

Saturday night playing in a club, everything seems normal when i start to hear a LOUD noise comming from my amp, people look at me in shock, i put the amp off and the sound men brings a shure 58 to the stage and mikes my bass, i finished the gig although people said that with the microphone, you couldnt hear the bass that good...anyway.
i pack the bass in the bag and i move to the car, the floor outside is slippery and i didnt change shoes as i still have the ones i play with, i slipped and i cant avoid falling over the bass, i heard a Loud bang and i open the bag in fear... the taipliece broke and i have 3 enormous cracks on the top of the bass. Luthier says at least 3k to repair it. The gig paid me 160$, i wish i would have stayed home.
Now its time to go to the closet and start selling , watch out for the classifieds, there will be many strings, pickups, and whatever i can part with, very sad day. sorry guys but i really had to let my pain out
have a good day everybody

Nuno

Bass accidents suck. I've had a couple and there are few worse feelings in the world then opening your case when you know there is carnage to view inside. I feel for you. Hope everything works out.

+1. You've just gotta be insured. "I can't afford it"? Well you will afford the repair! Anything can happen at any time. You just can't afford not to have it. Sorry this happened, btw.

Yea that's a sick feeling.

Basses are tough. You'll be playing it again before you know it.

+1 on insurance. I always tell people insurance on their gig equipment is part of the cost of doing business. Kinda like the price of strings, rosin, gas to get there etc.

Hey ... very sorry to hear of your lousy night Nuno. And I hope you'll change your mind about "cleaning" house on your gear collection. 3k for repairs eh? Sad and unfortunate..

Just be glad you're still ok! I fell on ice just under 3 months ago, and I now have titanium in my leg. I hope you can get your bass fixed, and back into action!

The ironic thing about insurance is that 3 months ago i contacted a company to insure my basses and other gear, i still have the papers home, but i needed a written apraisal from my luthier for the basses, so i decided to wait till the next time i would go there to do some small tweaking of my basses...
well, now its too late, on the other side, the piano player who was right behind me and saw everything told me, "man, the bass saved your life.."
Since i have a great health insurance, maybe some extra stitches would have been better and cheaper...anyway, we always learn something, so guys, call your insurance companies now....
thanks for the nice words everybody

One of my bass buddies was in an auto accident on his way to a gig last year and wrecked his car, his shoulder, and his bass. He had no insurance on any of the three. I offered him my backup bass, but he had to decline- no way to get it to the gig!

I then upgraded my policy to 'all-peril', which covers these types of mishaps as well as well as 'my own stupidity'. Coverage on 6 basses and 4 amps costs me about $80/year.

Shy's bass (Shy O., my bass buddy here in OKC) ending up sounding better after the reconstructive surgery. (It was in pieces) Hope yours turns out OK.
