Glaesel DB-2303

A local music store has a Glaesel DB-2303. I find a DB-30 talked about a little but not much, and this model not at all.

It's a returned rental, I could get it for something like $1600, curious to know if it's real step up from my Roma, which is fully carved but nonetheless entry level.

Thanks in advance.

OK, I stopped by the music store and played this instrument earlier today. It's sound might best be described as what I imagine a coffin with strings would sound like, which is to say it didn't sound much like a musical instrument but just a wooden box with strings.

Sounds like an Eberle from bassesonline.com is in my future.

Not all Eberles are created equally, so don't assume that it will automatically sound better than your Roma.

Since your profile says you're in New Jersey, I suggest you actually visit Ideal Music in NYC to play these instruments. That way, you can actually know what these basses sound like. Usually, the person there who works on these basses, who is a bass player, will pick out the better sounding instruments and denote them.

Ideal is where I got my Roma, and where I will be going. I will be taking a friend who is an experienced bass player, and my teacher, along with me to see what we both think of the sound, and I'm going to bring my Roma as well to compare.

Thanks for the advice - I agree with it completely!
