I'm just getting into double bass and wonder if this is a good deal in your views. I will playing mostly bluegrass and acoustic country, some rockabilly. The asking price is $2000 Canadian (about $1800 US I think).
1949 Kay C1 Upright/Double bass
Upgrades that have been done to this bass:
-Upgraded Endpin + tail cable to replace the stiff original wire
-fingerboard dressed,
-new sound post installed
-new bridge with adjusters
-"Fan Belt" bumpers on the treble site to protect the bass when lying down.
The bass plays very well and is ready to go in its current set up and condition. Strung with Weichs on the E and A, Belcantos on the D and G - Very nice combination on this bass.
If it's a genuine 49 kay for sure, it's in good shape, and you've got the capital, I would say jump on it. Kays are classics for sure, and every one I've ever played has been fantastic.

Uh, no, that's a terrible deal and, uh, you should, uh, tell me where it is so I can, uh, go there and, uh, tell the dealer to, uh, not sell it to you. Yeah, Yeah, that's the ticket.
