Good first bass

I just switched from electric to upright, and am currently renting a bass. My budget is around 700-1200$. My teacher recommended an upton student bass for 1200, but I haven't been able to find one. If anyone has a recommendation on a good bass for a beginner or where I could find the upton it would be much appreciated.

Look up !

Upton usually has a banner running across the top of this forum. If it's not there try http://www.uptonbass.com Expect to pay more than $1,200 though unless you come across a great deal on a used one.

The "Upton Standard" laminate bass starts at $1700.

They also have Shen basses set up real nice (Upton setup) for $1550 though. Shens are very nice, well-made, good sounding basses for not too much money.

here:

You can find a Shen for less, but without the Upton upgrades.
