This is harsh, but honest...don't even try. I highly doubt that you would come away with something playable-let alone something that sounds good. Save the money and be willing to wait until you can afford to buy one. The guys that make them charge what they do because of the craftsmanship involved & specialized knowledge. I'm not comfortable doing a setup on my DB, let alone attempting to build one.

Sleep_Monkey-have you checked the Newbie Links or Bob G's Luthier directory? There's a ton of great info in there. When i was researching what DB would be best for me, i think i spent days if not weeks, reading through that list.

Cam, thanks for the info...I haven't checked that out yet.

The one I am going to check out tomorrow is supposedly from the 60's and made in Asia...it was professionally set up, stays in tune, comes with bag and bow......he said he bought it for $900 used....

That's awesome! As long as it sounds good, feels good, and doesn't need $1k+ in repairs, sounds like you're gettin quite a deal.

let us know how it turns out.

So I got the upright today...very nice looking...custom made bridge...was recently professionally set up....new looking bag for it....bow (needs resin)...and sounds good. There is a small separation on the back ...like where the neck and body meet maybe...but it doesn't affect it at all.

Now the bad news is that my amp died today so I am going to have to sell it asap so I can play some gigs the next few weeks.

I will post pics if anyone is interested in it.

Post pictures of this & the more knowledgeable members should be able to tell you if that is a major problem or not.
