A Great Show for bassists... and their friends

L'Orchestre de Contrebasses is a group of French bassists who perform a show that has been described as "Blue Man Group with Basses." I think that that simplifies it, dumbs it down, but whatever...

It's a great show, full of great bass ensemble playing played by some of the best EU bass talent around. The visuals are great, but then you don't even them need them. The music is what makes this show so good.

They're playing at The Connelly Theater, which is on E4th Street in New York, between A and B. The shows are at 8PM and you can get tickets from smarttix.com -I would search using the keyword "L'Orch."

I wouldn't use this forum for amping a gig if I didn't feel it was important for every bassist I know to see it.

If you're in NYC before December 20, 2008, you'll kick yourself if you don't check it out.

I youtube’d these guys and all I can say is, I hope none of the other instrumentalists see this; they’ll laugh their asses off.

I don’t care how good they sound I don’t want to see two bass players dancing with a their bass’s upside-down rubbing the other guys endpin as if their mating…

I looked them up on Youtube. It looked like BLAST with basses.

But seriously, I remember hearing a CD by them about 15 years ago. They did a soundscape piece depicting going down a highway to a fishing boat then going out to sea to go fishing. They made all the sound effects with their basses. It was quite amazing.
