Half bass

I'm looking to find the maker of the half looking bass. It's a regular Upright bass it just has the bottom knocked off and it's basically half the body size of a regular one however still much like a regular upright bass. I was wondering if anyone has heard of these or seen these. I saw one when a jazz player from Quebec came and performed in my city. Then I went to Mcgill for a trip and Noticed tones of bass players there with them. If anyone has any details as to where I could find one of these or the maker or anything I'd appreciate it. They sound fricking phenominal.

Yes I think that's it! Is there other luthiers that craft the same style of instrument or is this it? I have been reading and it says it's a plywood bass. Is there anyone who makes the same sort of thing but not with plywood?

Kolstien now makes something like that too. It doesn't say it's carved, so I assume it's also ply. I haven't seen one except in the ad.

Sorry, that's Kolstein, and it is carved. A better link to the ad is here.
