HARP FOR ROMA 3/4 BASS MODEL 393

I BOUGHT THE REFERENCED BASS AT AN AUCTION AND THE STEM WAS BROKEN OFF. I REATTACHED IT AND THEN FOUND THAT THE STRINGS WERE TOO FAR ABOVE THE FINGERBOARD TO USE. MY REPAIR JOB MAY BE THE PROBLEM. THE BREAK WAS A CLEAN ONE SO I KNEW WHERE TO REATTACH BUT I NOTICED THAT IT HAD SLIPPED A LITTLE DUE TO MY CLAMPS NOT HOLDING AFTER THE GLUE HAD DRIED. SLIPPAGE WAS VERY SMALL, MAYBE AN EIGHTH INCH. THEN I NOTICED THE HARP, 6.5 IN HEIGHT, APPEARS TO BE TOO TALL FOR THE INSTRUMENT THEREBY FORCING THE STRINGS UP TOO MUCH. COULD THAT BE THE PROBLEM? ....AND COULD ANY OF YOU TELL ME WHAT SIZE HARP IS RECOMMENDED? IF MINE IS CORRECT THEN MY PROBLEM WOULD HAVE TO LIE WITH MY AMATEUR REPAIR JOB. HELP!!!!

If I don't do it someone else will....

First a note on net etiquette:
Please turn your CAPS LOCK off. It's considered bad form to type in all caps -- people read it as though you're SHOUTING at them.

Also, maybe I'm just ignorant, or maybe English is not your first language but I don't know what you mean when you say "STEM" and "HARP." Could the HARP be the bridge? And the STEM the endpin?

Here's a bridge:

And an endpin:

Or maybe you were referring to the tailpiece:

In any event, I am not qualified to answer these questions but I think if you posted under the SETUP & REPAIR heading someone can help you out.

Hi Bud, and welcome on Talkbass!

Indeed, you should ask your question on the Setup & Repair forum instead.
Another suggestion is to fill out your profile, so the other members can easily check your gear, location, tastes, etc. so they can much better help you!

Best regards, and best of luck with your new baby!

DR. JOHN LIVES!

An 1/8th of an inch is a HUGE slip!

I'm going to venture a guess, that your repair is a pain in the stem.
