I hasd a 92 Civic and could carry the bass in the front seat, tilted diagonally towards the back as described earlier in this thread. Visibility wasn't the best, but it did the trick and left the trunk free for amps etc.

Between being one of six children, and gigging now for the past eleven years. I've become quite the packer of vehicles.

When I don't use our minivan, I use our Dodge Stratus. (4-door smaller sedan) I can fit my upright bass, 2/10 and 4/10 cabinets, amplifier, milk crate with cables and D.I. , briefcase with charts, gig bag with my slab bass, clothes bag, and a case of beer...

I've got a 96 Dodge Ram pickup with a club cab (not the big 4-door rear cab like most trucks now have) that I occassionally have to move my bass around in. I can get it to fit by reclining the passenger seat and resting the bass diagonally so that the lower bout is in the passenger seat and the neck moves up and behind the driver seat. Perhaps the bass will fit in the Taurus this way (if you haven't already tried this)? I'm also assuming that the rear seat doen't fold down to add cargo room through the trunk.

Cool Fit?

Years ago, I had a Gig with a Trio in Long Island when I lived in Queens NY. I was maybe 19 years old at most. The Guitarist came to pick me up in a VW Beatle. I had and old German type 3/4 Bass like a Wilfer/Juzek shape about 50-80 years old then, hat peg gears.. you know the type..

He also had the Drummer with Drums, Acoustic Guitar, Amp and was adding me with my Bass & Amp.. Well, "Step aside" I told them as I tore everything out of the Car and re-packed it to fit everything just like Canned Food, Vacume packed..

No, I am not done yet. This Guy was from Haiti and had a Language problem. He had directions and said he needed to find the '7-state parkway' as we went towards long island. I said, and I didn't drive yet but I knew he meant, 'You mean the Southern State Parkway'!

He would not believe me as we drove in a packed Sardine Can in hot summer weather looking for a road that did not exhist. It was bad enough if we got there without getting lost but after the second time passing the exit we needed he finally pulled over and asked someone only to find out I was 100% correct and the car was starting to smell. Luckily we were playing at a pool party and the place was only a few minutes from where we stopped..

So, got a small car? .. Get a freekin Air Conditioner!!!

Here's how I been gettin' it done... Passenger seat folds forward (toward the dash), then slides up (toward the dash), back seat folds down to expose the trunk, scroll into the trunk, endpin... well... in so many words... toward the dash.

Get it however you can! Have you thought about mounting a small 4cyl and a seat on the bass itself?
