Help buying Double Bass!!

Hi guys

Could anyone recommend me a double bass for around 1500.

I saw a nice bass at lemur and another one at upton, but I would like to know if anyone could recommend me some other options.

By the way I live in montreal so if anyone knows a place; it would be nice but if I need to order on line it is fine with me.

Sure! Fretwell has a lovely Englehardt ES-1 for $1,550 USD.

You could check the luthier directory on Bob G's site for basses near you.

Don't forget about the exchange rate (very favourable right now at about 0.90) and shipping (usually about $300) and taxes (5% federal and provincial if applicable).

I ordered from Upton and am happy with my bass.

Look at used local sales strongly.

My teacher recently purchased the least expensive Upton as a rental for students and is very impressed with the instrument. I liked it too .... but then ... i haven't got that much experience on the double bass ... yet.

I can't believe it - a poster with a reasonable idea of the price of an entry level DB, and who hasn't mentioned a fully carved instrument from ebay!

I'm almost ready to order one from upton or maybe this one: http://www.nantelmusique.ca/product6...ch-403602.aspx

does anyone knows any info about this bass O. M. Mönnich

looks pretty decent on the pictures and the price is not bad at all.

When I looked at the price compared to a couple of their other models, it made me think that the choices from Upton and/or Lemur would make you much happier.

I would check to see if any local Montreal dealers have Shen SB 80s for you to try.
