Help dating kay bass

I picked up a kay M1 bass serial #26509
The paper tag is gone but the # is stamped inside. I've included pics. Can someone tell me the year this bass was made. Also it needs a neck reset (see pic) I hear kays a know to have a problem in this area. Any advice about the reset? I will have my luthier do it. I've seen them with a dow through the fingerboard, would this be needed in this case? If you can tell by the pic.

Thanks
Kevinlee

From the Kay serial number database, your bass was made in 1951.

Roger Stowers' website has a lot of Kay data if you're new to the brand.

http://www.kaybass.com/

The dowel through the finger board is a sign of incompetent repair and won't be necessary.
