Hey everyone. I was considering selling my old ply bass. I've had it for about 15 years, and I think it's time to give it a new home.
The fingerboard and bridge were replaced about 10 years ago. The work was done by Robert Riccardi Sr, who did a great job (as he always did).
The label inside says "Rodina" "Roderich Schuster" and under that, on another tag, it says "made in Western Germany". There have been a few at auction and they date it to the 1950's.
I would like to give the new owner a good deal, and was wondering what you guys would list it for.
Here are some pics:
I bought this from the house bass player at a tiny jazz club in southern NJ (anyone remember Serenghetti?). I am thinking with the newer fingerboard, this should be a great beginner bass for someone, and a nice alternative to the eBay basses that are a disaster for the student. What do you guys think?
Thanks for the reply. I wasn't really considering selling it, but I saw a few posts where people were looking for a first upright. I think this one is pretty nice. I was thinking about doing a package deal with the bass, a super super thin Mooradian case, Finale CF bow, a brand new set of Sprirocore solos and an old Realist pickup. I was thinking that $1500 was a decent price. Does that sound about right?

That's a great price. Do you really want to sell it? I remember Craig Thomas used to tell us that everyone needs a good plywood bass for "combat zone gigs". Do you have another ply?
Most of my gigs these days seem to fit that description.
That's a good point. Though, 99% of my work is playing classical these days. I do the occasional salsa gig, but I use my Baby Bass for that...and a few pit bands gigs on electric. I'm not doing too many gigs in the combat zone right now, but I do have another bass that I could use should the need arise.
