The owner is a good old country boy and doesn't know the make or the model. He says it is a German bass dating to the early 40's. It also has a logo on the inside that feature a Globe with a fiddle but he has no picture of the logo. Could this be a Framus bass? I am just trying to find out mainly if it is carved or ply since it is a 3 hour drive away I would like info before I make the drive. He is selling it for about $1800
Thx!

Although, if it says "Framus," I suspect he'd have told you that.

I have had it filled out for the years I have been on TB but had overlooked the location part! He couldn't read the writing well, but said it started with an F. That logo there sounds like what he was describing. I had no idea Framus made real uprights. I know they made EUB's. Does anyone know about their real uprights? |

There is nothing more irritating , except for the grammar nazis, than the grumpy old tb'ers who have been on the board for 20 years, who can't tolerate anyone under 50 asking a question. Are Framus UB's so common that I am expected to know their history or even be aware that there are many post? I did the search, and wasn't that helped by the results. I have played upright bass almost 20 years and have never even heard of them before, so please cut me a little slack!
Again, my question: if that is ok with you, does anyone out there think this bass has a carved top at least? |

You asked, "Does anyone know about their real uprights?" The quickest way to find out is to do a search. I and others here field questions from players having all kinds of different experiences and facility with basses and with the internet. Believe it or not, many users simply aren't familiar with the search function. I provided instructions, not out of sarcasm, but to make it easy for you. I am neither old nor grumpy, nor do I engage in ageism. Just look at my history here and you'll see that I try to help people of all ages on a fairly regular basis. I even took the time to find the Framus logo to help you get information from the seller. You are not "expected" to know anything about the basses about which you're asking. That's the point of asking. You are not "expected" to know that there are many posts about Framus basses. You find out by searching. It's a pretty natural first step around here. So, I tried to lead you to the answer as quickly as possible by tapping into the stored knowledge. You never said that you had done any kind of search prior to asking and I can't tell from your last response whether you had. I think it is you who needs to cut me a bit of slack. I did nothing but try to help you get the answers you were seeking. In return for my efforts, I got blasted.

To me it looks like it atleast has a carved top and is in nice condition which would suggest a nice price point for that bass but nobody could really say anythinng based on that pic alone. |

I don't want to be a jerk and your post had caught me right after I had just driven an hour to be stood up by a client (in my day job) and I was already very grumpy! I just have not had the experience of searching through old threads as being as helpful as some think and usually the person giving the advice takes a very snide tone as if condemning a rookie for asking a dumb question. Your post was meant in a much better spirit and I apologize for going off. Of course it is never beneficial to go off and I appreciate you not going off back. Thanks for finding the logo, that does help alot, because I can send it to the seller via email and ask him if it is the same. |

Thx! | I'm in NJ, be Super Careful with craigslist, at least in this area theres So many scams, and people including ones I personally know are getting robbed when they hook up. You may think you have a good ole country boy and when you go meet him you may meet to a shotgun like my friend who tried selling his tele, at a busy populated rest stop on the NJ Turnpike....Dont go alone |

I have never had a bad craigslist experience but am probably going to pass on this one. There are other basses closer to nashville that I will check out first. If those don't work out I'll give this guy a call again. Thanks |

Kind of funny, though. I've never heard of that, but for sure, meet the guy in a populated area if you're handing money over.
