Check out Ideal Music/Steve Loeb at
www.bassesonline.com. Steve continues to liquidate his late dad's NYC instrument business and still had a few remaining Eberle and Roma DB's available. You can pick up a very decent DB at an excellent price. If you take it without a setup (recommended), you'll save more. Then, take it to a place like Ricardi's Violins in South Jersey and have them set it up.
Ideal had many satisfied customers on this forum - including me. He does not have much left but you can pick up a great carved bass for around $1200 and a hydrid for even less. Call him. Ricardi's has a guy who posts here regularly. Maybe he'll pipe in. Jimmy, are you out there??
And . . . yes, get a teacher. It is important. Maybe your school can help you.
