Help Needed: Beijing TBDBers?

Hello. In the end of May, my school is sending me and a guitarist to perform in Beijing for a week with the Red Hand Band (a popular jazz group in the Beijing Jazz Scene). I need to get in touch with a bass player or bass dealer in Beijing so I can get a rental, which will be covered by the school. If anyone can send me a PM with information, it'd be greatly appreciated

Happy New Year.

Kevin

I wish you luck. I went to Beijing twice with my college big band, and getting equipment in was quite the hassle. I wish I had made some connections there, but very few Beijingers speak English, and none of us spoke Chinese. It did make for a very good time, however. It is a very cool place, and the audiences are quite attentive.

One of the producers I work with does a lot of film work in Beijing and has lots of studio contacts there. If all else fails, let me know and I'll ask him to have his Chinese composer ask around.

Shameless plug for the series I narrated is attached!!

Xuechang Sun bass

I see from your public profile you own a Xuechang Sun bass. I believe they are made in Beijing. You could probably contact him about getting a loaner. Maybe you can make an advertising deal with him and he'll let you use it for free and deliver it for you. (ex putting his name in the program or announcing it from stage)

And it would probably feel like your own bass, too.

Kevin,

I've been based out of Hong Kong since autumm of 2007. So I'm not to familiar with who's who or who's got what for rent in mainland China anymore. Maybe TB'r Myrick might know a bit more about this than I do. Good luck!

You might want to try Concord International Group, the people who import Christopher basses, and see if they might be able to hook you up.
