Help Wanted On A Couple Upright Basses

Hello....first time here so I hope I did this right. I'm looking at three uprights from a seller in New York I found by reading the posts here and interested in maybe purchasing one but would appreciate any info someone might could offer. I play mostly Bluegrass along with some pop and have used mostly kay's along with an Azola EUB. He has a Roma (Romanian) Model #393 Hybrid, a Czech ply and a Eberle Ply all about the same vintage and in a comparable price range. I'm leaning towards the Roma Hybrid because of the carved top but would sure like to hear any opinions on these from you guys. Thanks, Joey.

Which one sounds better? How do they play? If I were checking out a bass, I'd put my usual strings on and play. If it played well and sounded good, it wouldn't matter if it were hybrid or not. Your sound is your sound. As long as the basses are in good shape, that's all that matters.

Sounds like Steve over at Ideal. Since that's in NYC and Our Erstwhile Buyer is in NC, I don't think playing them is an option HOUSE O'GOMEZ...

here's a bass you can play in N.C.

http://raleigh.craigslist.org/msg/182491578.html

Will deliver to the Triangle or Piedmont areas of North Carolina within 100 miles of Durham, NC. I'm not sure about my willingness to ship it at this time.

Call 919-270-3014 or 919-806-1700 x322.

Asking $2750.00

This bass lists for $4750.00

I'm all for playing basses and joey definitly should fall by and check it out.

I'm also pretty sure he's looking at the less than $1500 price tag that most of Steve's basses are going for.

I notice my name mentioned above .. hi all.
Just back from a very long vacation in PR .. listened to lots of baby bass for sure.
Anyone needing to contact me about the obvious can now do so and expect a timely response ...
My apologies if I failed to do so previously, but where I was, getting on line was always hit or miss ...

Does this mean that all future basses from your shop will be set up to go "thunk"?

We ain't heard back from joeyd, and that was just an assumption on my part, Steve. The range of basses he mentioned sounded like what was on the floor last time I went in the shop.
