Hofner 1/2

I have the chance of getting a Hofner 1/2 upright bass for about 1000 bucks. Made in Germany and is about 20 years old....I didn't know Hofner made double basses so should is this a decent deal or what?

Thanks in advance.

1/2 size Framus

I bought a 1/2 Framus for a friend during the summer, around the same vintage, probably made by the same shop in Germany.

I paid $1000 for it. It's laminated with a rosewood board and has a 38" string length. It is in good condition its age but it did have some finish scratches and discolorations.

It sounds great, especially for jazz. It's at my luthiers for a set-up right now.

Based on my experience, I would buy it. Just make sure you are ok with the string length. I generally find it easier to go to a shorter string length than a longer string length intonation wise.

i've been playing a 3/4 bass but want something more manageable. i've played a chinese made 1/2 in a local store and found the intonation easy to recognize for the shorter length. The string length is 39". I know 1/2 arn't as loud but i plan to pick up a pickup/mic for it in the future. cool thakns for the reply.
