hofner/Nurnberger bass

hi - I am close to buying a new bass - this is a German bass, made in 1954 by Karl Nurnberger. seems to be under the Hofner label, given the symbol at the top of the back. all wood.

it has been sitting for a number of years unplayed, so needs warming up.

has a couple of cracks that were well repaired.

the guy selling it is a good bass repair guy - and he has worked on it for the past many years.

he is asking $3000.00. what think you?
( Iwould upload some pics, but can't figure out how to do that!)

any words of advice? comments?

Thanks,

Craig

Hi Craig
at first it's good to fill as much of your profile as you can stomach. Then i'd prefer to have the opinion of a luthier for the bass, since he/she can evaluate the instrument. If the cracks have been properly addressed they are not a problem. The major factors are the sound of the bass and the general condition (set up etc). The price sounds rather attractive for such an instrument.
Good luck
Mike
