| "holes in my bass!"
I have just been reading the "newbie threads" for the first time, and got stuck right quick on "holes in the bass." There's a reason for that of course. Research type of people are quite apt to do strange thngs without ever thnking about the $$ part of it... I be one of those, and have had some real fun with holes in the bass! I didn't know someone else had also fooled with that, but of course, should have. It's dang near impossible to have a new idea by yourself, and this one seems to date back to before I was thought of.
I will briefly summarize what I found out about putting holes in laminated basses - didn't make a lick of difference in the sound. I even used one pair of holes on an experimental bass to put in two threaded truss rods, in order to change the pressure on the top and back. That did make a difference.
But - on one such bass, the holes helped me to sell it. When I added a story line. (Mothers, don't let yer babies grow up to be PhDs!)
